Temperament
Maltese dogs are intelligent, affectionate, and gentle. They are also known for being lively, playful, and responsive. They can be stubborn and determined, but they respond well to positive training methods. Maltese dogs are also natural watchdogs that are alert to suspicious activity and may bark in response to unfamiliar noise.
Size
Maltese dogs are small, compact dogs with long, silky, white coats, hanging ears, and plumed tails. They typically stand 7–9 inches at the withers and weigh 6–8 pounds.
Living situation
Maltese dogs can adapt to most living environments and get along well with children and seniors. They can also live with other pets, but it’s best to introduce them when they are puppies. Maltese dogs are happy with a moderate amount of attention, but they can be prone to separation anxiety if left alone for too long. Crate training can help prevent separation anxiety.
Exercise
Maltese dogs are energetic and enjoy playtime, so they need plenty of exercise to use up their energy. They are also talented and athletic, making them good companions for dog sports like obedience and agility.
